Gracat Residence

This new fieldstone home adjacent to the neighboring Talamore Country Club was inspired by the work of early-twentieth century architect R. Brognard Okie and by the natural beauty of the setting. A comprehensive design overcame challenges due to setback restraints and achieves both an idyllic siting and a floor plan that accommodates the narrative established by the client.

The approach to the property begins over a bridge and culminates at an entry court with a porte-cochère at the top of the drive. Beyond the porte-cochère, neatly tucked away from the front elevation of the home, the drive continues to the garage bays. The key spaces on the interior of the house—the kitchen, family room, great room, and master bedroom—all have southern exposure. The great room, with its cathedral ceiling and bar, connects to the kitchen to allow for large gatherings and entertaining, while a separate dining room is used for more intimate or formal occasions. The family room opens onto a generous outdoor terrace that overlooks the creek and meadow beyond.

Bathed in light from the expansive glazing that takes advantage of the views, the 7,000-square-foot home features period-appropriate millwork, casing, baseboards, stairs, paneling, and wainscot throughout.
