Reflection Memorial

A prologue from the Reflection Memorial Landscape.

Inducing visitors to personal experiences and differing emotions, Reflection Memorial is an array of circles, scattered as if at random, marking episodes to engage visitors to the park. As such, none memorializes any specific person or even.

Projected from the extremes of its adjacent worlds - masses of tourism in the capital prevent true reflection, and the seriousness of the national cemetery requires specific types of memorialization (recollection) - Columbia Island exists in-between the fabric of both realities. This presents the opportunity to provide episodes of reflection and projection in their distinct characterized worlds.

Each distinct world, or circle gathers a record of each visit to grow in depth and complexity. As each record evolves, the circles use them to produce scripts for future encounters.

Each thus developing an increasingly specific relation to its place in the park.

From the open waters of the Potomac to long paths through dense woods to floating circles above the ground, each joins the human feelings and thoughts of its record to the distinct sensations of its proximate landscape to write its ever-changing script for the next encounter.
