Parkland Memorial

Our design concept for the Parkland Shooting Memorial seeks to create a sanctuary of solace and strength, a space that reflects the resilience and unity of the community in the face of tragedy. Inspired by the power of nature and the inherent healing properties of water, our memorial design envisions a serene and contemplative environment, nestled within a wooded grove. A meandering pathway through the grove ushers you into the central opening at the bottom of a small mound that leads you up to the secluded central gathering space. The path continues up the mound to the heart of the memorial which features water and shade embodying the concept of renewal and rejuvenation, providing a source of comfort and tranquility.
The heart of our design is a central pond surrounded by 17 intersecting pavilions each representing one of the lives lost. The conical shape of the pavilions bring focus to the eternal with their oculi and promote solace through congregation as the cones widen at ground level and begin to intersect and the spaces interconnect.
The pavilions line the edge of the reflection pond and open inwardly toward each other connecting people on opposite sides of the water. Cladded with a highly reflective material to absorb the sky, the pavilions in essence bring heaven down connecting the immediate and the distant, the now and the hope to come, imminent and transcendent. Our design for the Parkland Memorial aims to be a place of reflection, healing, and hope.
