The shortage of urban land and increasing population of both the living and the dead necessitates a coexistence of the city and the cemetery. Securing and amplifying Green-Wood’s venerable and historic icons, a new city-strata is integrated into and above Green-Wood cemetery. An aerial tramway system facilitates connections among a symbiotic archipelago of life and death, introducing a new urbanism, a sustainable cemetery system, and a proper home for Green-Wood’s historic archive which can now grow infinitely into the future. Interstitial spaces operate as a buffer to reconcile and weave together time, program, light and activity.
