Zuidasdok Amsterdam

Efficient international mobility hub and new green space for the city

The Zuidas in Amsterdam. A top international location, with Amsterdam Zuid as the fastest growing station in the Netherlands. But the area is bursting at the seams. The Zuidasdok project will transform it over the coming years. Based on green space, the design will contribute both to a better flow of traffic and a better quality of metropolitan life.

The area is sliced in two by a motorway. A road tunnel will free up space for a hub of international standing and a pleasant new public space, a beating heart that will reconnect the separated districts.

At Amsterdam Zuid station, trains, metros, trams, buses and bicycles come together. The station is being renovated and widened, forming an important new hub. An additional entrance, inbuilt cycle parking, slim awnings, broad passageways and subdued colours ensure efficiency and create a pleasant atmosphere, calm amid the busy traffic flows. Travellers will soon look out over green space from the platforms.

The entire design features a uniformity of materials, giving visual coherence to the widened highway and its tunnel. Flanked by trees and plants and, like the station, with front sides only, it is a green corridor in the vibrant city.
