Loop Optometry is a tenant improvement for a new retail optometry shop at the ground floor of a new mixed-use residential building facing San Francisco’s bustling 5th Street. When zero ten design first visited the existing space it was simply a raw concrete shell, but with high ceilings and a huge street-facing wall of storefront glazing. In it, we saw opportunity-no pun intended!
The client’s program was broken up into two distinct elements: a retail space for the sale of glasses, and an office for the optician functions. The high-volumed space at the front was a natural for the retail functions, and to activate it, we opted for a large graphic mural of an abstract phoroptor to catch the eye of passersby and reinforces the small space’s verticality. To showcase the beauty and simplicity of the modern eye ware, we designed very simple yet rustic wall cases and retail customer kiosks. Tucked away in the rear of the space we placed the more private, medical functions: the lab, office and exam rooms.
