This is Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. There are many old rowhouses that

were built before World War II in the narrow alley near the busy
boulevard. Many of them are too aged, and some of them are left as
vacant houses. We renovated one of them at the request of the owner.The
building was vacant for several years and was severely damaged. However,
when materials made of industrial products added after World War II
were removed, the space unique to the Kyomachiya, such as delicate
structures, beautiful designs, and continuity between the outdoors and
indoors, was revived.
