Housing is always a big issue in such a high-dense city like New York, Shifting Hybrids is a project trying to solve the problem by providing mixed / flexible use between hotel and residential units at the same time exploring the formal relationship between these 2 types of usage. Space is driven by translating natural phenomenon “cracking“ into architectural meanings : opening, public, and privacy; besides, using “bending“ as a spatial language indicating the transit between different programs.
