Thunder Valley CDC Sustainable Self-Help Housing

The Thunder Valley CDC Sustainable Self-Help Housing designed by Pyatt Studio Architecture as part of the Regenerative Community Development on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Net-Zero Energy Ready homes utilizes a ‘Tiospaye’ system of organizing a small group of seven compact single-family homes around a circle of shared space to foster community. Common features in the Thunder Valley Housing Circle include community gardens, playground space, access to a community building and an integrated solar and stormwater management system. The houses are designed to maximize their passive & active solar access, connect to the common area through east entries and exterior porches, and allow for expansion through planned wheelchair accessible additions.
