Howard Laks, Biography
Howard Laks, AIA, is Principal of Howard Laks Architects and has been in practice for thirty years. Mr. Laks has received design awards for his work including, Los Angeles Business Council Award, 2017, Santa Monica Conservancy, 2017, AIA Los Angeles Next Award, 2013, Westside Urban Forum 2014, Merit Award for North Hills Community Park, 2007 and Best Mixed Use, 2015. His work has contributed to the vibrant and on going movement of contemporary regional Southern California Modernist design. Mr. Laks is most recognized for his ability to work with owners to craft a solution this is wholly responsive to their unique building and budgetary considerations. He is expert at distilling client needs, site specific conditional and local building requirements into functional, sustainable, aesthetically pleasing buildings.
Mr. Laks, AIA received his Bachelors of Architecture in 1977 and his Master's of Architecture in 1980 from UC Berkeley School of Architecture. Mr. Laks served as associate professor at UC Berkeley School of Design from 1978 through 1980 and has held a teaching position at the UCLA Interior and Environmental Design Program since 1981. He served as a board member of the City of Santa Monica Architectural Review Board from 1996-2004, and as Chairperson from 2001-2002. Mr. Laks has been a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Local, State and National Chapter's since 1988.
