A classic loft becomes an urban escape.

A young finance professional purchased this classic Tribeca loft to create a tranquil urban sanctuary away from his stressful, bustling work environment.

The challenge was to convert this narrow 2700sf space with windowed ends into a modern, comfortable 3-bedroom apartment, complete with central air and service amenities, while maintaining the open feeling of a loft.  To achieve this end, the existing interior was removed and the rear half of the unit was elevated 12” to allow for the most advantageous layout of the spaces.

We strategized the ceilings to conceal the new mechanical systems, while selectively exposing and restoring the vaults and columns of the space’s industrial heritage.  Compositionally, we configured the walls and rooms along a single datum line to emphasize a clear view through the loft from end to end.

Concealed lighting illuminates the soft ripple of the vaults, carrying a true feeling of daylight throughout the length of the space.  The end result is a bright and calming home, idyllic for the owner’s peaceful escape.
