District Wharf, Phase II

Phase II of the District Wharf waterfront development involves the creative planning and design of the open space to complete the final phase of this mile long stretch of new development along the Washington Channel in Southwest D.C. As a thriving new pedestrian destination in the city, the site design reconnects visitors and residents to the vital ecological margin of the Washington, D.C. waterfront.

The design includes continuing the waterfront promenade from the first phase and creating a central Cove plaza surrounded by retail, bars, and restaurants. All over structure, the Promenade and Cove bring an open ground plane and tree canopy to the urban center offering shade, views to the water and a place to meet and gather. Additional site elements include a two block retail street, a mixed transit redesign of Maine Avenue, connective mews/alleys between buildings and terraced park with cafe seating, gathering lawn, gardens and boardwalk seating overlooking the channel.
