Holt Renfrew’s debut stand-alone men’s concept was realized with this 16,000 SF space on Toronto’s fashionable Bloor Street. The “masculine” design was intended to resemble a private club as much as a retail store.
The main level functions as an emporium by showcasing luxury leather goods on glass shelving supported with blackened stainless steel surrounding the central columns. A custom mosaic-tile floor and hand-knotted carpeting connects footwear, jewelry, and men’s furnishings which creates a truly unique customer experience.
On the fashion-focused second level, which includes a personal shopping suite and bespoke-tailoring shop, walnut shutters and herringbone flooring create a residential feel, while a patterned wool runner marks a circulation path.
A double-height structural screen extends through the escalator atrium, creating a strong visual connection between the two floors and provides additional merchandising space.
JS acted as Lead Designer on this project and managed a team of four. HR Men opened in 2014.
