Woodridge Neighborhood Library locates in Northeast Washington DC Rhode Island Ave. The old library was demolished in 2014 and new library was completed in 2016.
The 20,000 square foot library has separate spaces for adults, teens and children. The library features:
This new LEED Gold targeted library is conceived as an elegant treasure chest that orients library patrons towards the verdant Langdon Park behind the site. Through the use of material, precast concrete on the outside, and a clean, dull finish on the inside, the building strikes a balance between the high-traffic road on one side and the peaceful neighborhood park on the other.
A unique structure for the surrounding community, the library’s welcoming entrance opens into a central circulation area bathed in natural light with views towards the park. The library is designed with a great deal of flexibility to support a wide range of activities, ranging from intimate reading spaces through to grander areas that could be used to accommodate larger community assemblies. The books are pushed out to the perimeter walls to create open and more enjoyable gathering spaces for the community, encouraging patrons to circulate, wander and explore the different areas within the building, both inside and out.
