North Cottage

This 3,000 s.f. seasonal home is located on Tobin Island in the Muskoka Lakes region of Ontario, Canada. The heavily wooded site slopes steeply down to the waters edge over large rock outcroppings that cover the majority of the site surface. In response to the site character, the home is weaved between the trees and designed to lightly sit on heavy timber stilts above the rocky ground. The interior spaces connect to the outdoors through transitional spaces that use sliding glass walls, screened rooms, open decks and patios to create a variety of exposures that match the various weather conditions and seasonal needs. The cottage design and documentation was completed in summer 2010 and the cottage was completed in 2013.
