William Duff Architects (WDA) was tasked with designing and implementing the new Executive Lounge for British Airways at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The 7,158 sq ft lounge was designed to impress and cater to VIP guests and frequent-flyer members, while also meeting LEED standards. The new lounge features an increased seating capacity and separate dining and lounge amenities for first-class members. The facilities inside the Executive Lounge include a main lounge, business services, multiple bars, a kitchen, washrooms, and a boarding area. The design of the lounge features contemporary luxury furnishings and maximized ceiling
The lounge's minimalist design is characterized by a soothing color palette of blues, grays, and earth tones, and floor-to-ceiling windows providing stunning views of the runway. The lounge features 146 seats in various configurations, from bench seating, club chairs, and bar stools to desk chairs, catering to the needs of all travelers. The lounge offers 80 percent of its seats with access to power, including dedicated work areas with runway views.
The boutique Dining Room is one of the standout features of the lounge, featuring an entryway alcove clad in bronze wall paneling. The Dining Room offers a modern yet luxurious vibe, with plush seating in red velvet and stunning lighting design by Studio Three Twenty One. Overall, the new Executive Lounge is a testament to the airline's commitment to providing exceptional experiences for their valued customers.
