I, Vahid Eshraghi, am an architectural designer and photographer. I started studying architecture in 2002 at Islamic Azad University Tehran Central Branch. After graduating from bachelor studies, I obtained rank 3 in the entrance exam for graduate studies in Architectural Technology in 2009. I entered the University of Tehran, where I had the chance to probe into new computational design and manufacturing techniques, tools and theories. In 2011 pattern fascination led me to a research-based design as my thesis on algorithmic development of Iranian Islamic patterns and their potential for novel implementation in architecture and structure. Afterwards, I began studying the Master of Architecture and Urbanism at the AA School of Architecture (Design Research Lab). I had the chance to learn from Patrik Schumacher as the studio tutor and Theodore Spyropoulos and Alisa Andrasek as my tutors. Working with Patrik Schumacher who is a distinguished theorist as well as the Zaha Hadid partner brought me the opportunity to learn and practice principles of parametricism and new generative design approaches in the process of developing my studio project on parametric semiology which aimed to propose a prototypical system of design for a fashion center. In May 2013, I joined Zaha Hadid Architect, where I was working on the number of projects such as developing the design of a complex façade for Morpheus Hotel at the “City of Dreams” in Macau. In 2014 I returned to Iran and continued my research on patterns and computational design by teaching as a visiting professor at Islamic Azad University and Art University of Tehran as well as setting up design research workshops on computational structures, kinetic facades and architecture in fashion at Contemporary Architects Association. In parallel to my academic activities, I began my professional practices by founding VEA Studio in 2014. In VEA Studio, I started implementing my researches on patterns, computational design and advanced digital manufacturing in real projects, including residential, educational, commercial and interior designs in Iran and Canada. In 2018 I started my collaboration with LuxMea studio researching on generative design systems as well as large scale 3d printing technologies. LuxMea Studio is researching the generative structural systems as a permanent resident research company in Autodesk Technology Center in Toronto.
