This building is in the heart of the Washington Heights neighborhood in Manhattan, along the main commercial corridor of Amsterdam Avenue. It is an infill building that seeks to both fit into the surrounding masonry residential structures as well as reflect the vibrancy of the neighborhood around it.

The building will provide housing and supportive services to adults with serious mental illness who are at risk of chronic homelessness. The two layers also support this program: the first provides a sense of belonging while the second acts conceptually as a filter, providing both contact with and protection from outside influences. In this way, the building is designed to support both its program and its urban context.
