UO Architecture

Architecture: The Department of Architecture prepares students to become leaders in addressing climate change, social inequity, and rapid technological innovation. Consistently ranked in the top programs for sustainable design, the Department of Architecture offers fully accredited professional degree programs that support collaborative, integrative design thinking needed for the most pressing environmental challenges. Students can work directly with clients and grapple with the complexity of real locations in designing new buildings and revitalizing existing spaces to be uplifting, healthy, and green.  

Our Master of Architecture (M. Arch) program offers a NAAB-accredited professional degree, leading to licensure, in a stimulating academic environment. The Architecture program is based in Eugene and Portland.

- Track 1 (1 summer term plus 3 years) This path is designed for students who hold a bachelor's degree in any subject and are excited to pursue its educational and career potential! Track 1 students start in Eugene and have the option to transfer to Portland after the first year.

-Track 2 (2 years) This path is designed for students who hold a pre-professional degree in architecture. Track 2 students have the option to study in Eugene or Portland.

Interior Architecture : chair

Interior Architecture: The Department of Interior Architecture integrates critical analysis with creative thinking to revitalize, reuse, and adapt buildings to resonate with users and provide uplifting, healthy, and sustainable interior environments. The Department of Interior Architecture offers fully accredited professional degree programs that prepare graduates to be broadly educated designers to act as independent interior design problem solvers while providing collaborative experiences that will enable them to be valuable team members in today’s complex and dynamic research and design projects. Our unique multidisciplinary structure allows graduate students to integrate theory and practice from other environmental design disciplines while immersed in interior design and research.

Our Master of Interior Architecture (M. I Arch) program offers a CIDA-accredited professional degree, in a stimulating academic environment. The Interior Architecture program is based in Eugene and is the oldest CIDA-accredited graduate program.

- Track I (1 summer term plus 3 years) This path is designed for students who hold a bachelor's degree in any subject and are excited to pursue its educational and career potential!

- Track 2 (2 years) This path is designed for students who hold a pre-professional degree in interior architecture/design or architecture. Application Deadline: January 10, 2023

Landscape Architecture

Landscape Architecture: The Department of Landscape Architecture is recognized as a national leader in design education with a reputation for social responsibility and ecological stewardship. The Department of Landscape Architecture offers a comprehensive  professional degree with a curriculum that emphasizes understanding landscapes across multiple scales and contexts to support innovative design, critical thinking, and real-world problem solving. We approach design as a process of discovery, characterized by questioning, creating, testing, and evaluating. We strive to create environments that fulfill human needs and potential, and that are ecologically responsive and socially just.

Our Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program offers an LAAB-accredited professional degree in a stimulating academic environment. The Landscape Architecture program is based in Eugene.

- Track I (1 summer term plus 3 years) [ME1] This path is designed for students who hold a bachelor's degree in any subject and are excited to pursue its educational and career potential!

- Track 2 (1 summer term plus 2 years[ME2] ) This path is designed for students who hold a bachelor's degree in an environmental design field, including landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, and environmental design. Students with an LAAB-, LAAC-, or NAAB-accredited degree have no prerequisites to enter this track. Students with other environmental design degrees must have completed at least one academic year of environmental design studios.

Historic Preservation

Historic Preservation: The Historic Preservation program is one of the oldest such program on the West Coast. It operates out of the University of Oregon’s Portland campus, where students can study the city’s rich physical and social heritage and participate in the dynamic planning processes that are shaping this center of urban sustainability. The preservation field is evolving to include new ways of considering historic places, ensuring their survival in rapidly changing environments, and telling stories that have often been overlooked in the past. The Historic Preservation program focuses on research and instruction in both the theory and practice of historic preservation in the US and the world, with a focus on both the physical and social aspects of cultural resources.

Our Master of Science in Historic Preservation (MS HP) program offers a post-professional degree, focusing on advanced research and study. This degree is designed for students who hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with a strong interest in the field. The Historic Preservation program is based in Portland.
