The National Science Foundation’s Macrosystems Biology Program has awarded $3.8 million to a five-year project including research by Associate Professor Bart Johnson of the University of Oregon Department of Landscape Architecture. Johnson is a co-principal investigator on the collaborative research project, “Scaling to Regional Controls Over Prairie Plant Range Distributions under Future Climate Change.” The project includes three other UO faculty members: Professor Scott Bridgham (Environmental Studies), project lead; and co-principal investigators Professor Bitty Roy (Biology) and Adjunct Instructor Laurel Pfeifer-Meister (Institute of Ecology and Evolution). The project’s goal is to advance understanding of how climate change will affect plant species range distributions from local to regional scales. Other researchers include one each from Portland State University, the University of Wyoming, and Duke University.
