Craig Rafferty (B.Arch '70) is AIA Minnesota's 2012 Gold Medal recipient. The Gold Medal is AIA-MN's highest award bestowed on an individual member. It serves as recognition for a lifetime of distinguished achievement and significant contributions to architecture. Rafferty was an assistant professor at the School of Architecture for 14 years.
Rafferty began his professional career in Boston working with Hugh Stubbins and Associates after completing his graduate studies at MIT. In 1974 he received the Rotch Traveling Fellowship, one of a string of several University of Minnesota Architectural graduates to be named for this prize.
In addition to working for Ralph Rapson and Associates during his undergraduate studies, he worked for Brown Daltas Architects in Rome after the Rotch Fellowship. He then joined George Rafferty (B.Arch '42) and Richard Rafferty (B.Arch '51) at Rafferty Rafferty Tollefson Lindeke Architects in 1975.
The AIA-MN committee on Design also honored Todd Grover (B.A. Arch '95, M.Arch '97), partner at MacDonald & Mack Architects, Ltd., with a 2012 Young Architect Award. The award is given to architects who are AIA-MN members, have been licensed for less than 10 years, and have shown exceptional leadership in service to the profession, the community, design, planning, and education.
Rafferty and Grover will both be recognized for their achievements at the annual AIA-MN Awards Celebration on Friday, November 30, 2012.
