Los Angeles – UCLA Arts is pleased to announce the A.UD @ 50 Gala. On Saturday, March 19, 400 notables from the architecture, design, real estate development, construction and entertainment industries will unite on UCLA’s campus to celebrate a half-century of UCLA A.UD and its role in shaping the world through architecture, urbanism and design and to honor:

    • legendary architect, author and educator Denise Scott Brown;
    • visionary designer and humanitarian Yves Béhar;
    • and a key group of influential advocates who have helped to preserve and raise the profile of Palm Springs’ extraordinary legacy of midcentury modern architecture: Jacques Caussin, Beth Edwards Harris PhD, Robert Imber, Gary Johns, Nickie McLaughlin, Peter Moruzzi and Sidney Williams

for their unique contributions to the advancement of architectural discourse, design, and the built environment.

Proceeds from the gala support A.UD’s innovative programs and much needed scholarships for A.UD students.

“As UCLA prepares to celebrate its Centennial in 2019, the School of the Arts and Architecture is proud to recognize the unique contributions that UCLA A.UD has made across our campus, throughout the city and around the world over the past half-century,” says David Roussève, Interim Dean, UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture. “Now more than ever, the world demands creative solutions to the many complex and pressing challenges of our time. There is no better time to recognize the essential role that architecture and urban design play in shaping our futures. UCLA A.UD is poised to help tackle the challenges of the 21st century with some of the greatest minds and practitioners in the field, in one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic cities, at the heart of one of the world’s great public research universities.”

“From its inception, UCLA Architecture and Urban Design has been at the forefront of innovation helping define contemporary architectural discourse and new directions in the industry,” says Hitoshi Abe, Chair of UCLA Architecture and Urban Design. “We are poised to radically expand the role architecture and urban design play in shaping and influencing the world by clarifying, expanding and strengthening its role as a hub that integrates new technologies and a platform that facilitates groundbreaking intellectual and practical collaborations with other disciplines. By embracing this central role both within the public research university and at the center of our allied disciplines, A.UD will deepen our engagement, expand our reach, and broaden our impact.”

“We are honored to support UCLA Architecture and Urban Design and to be members of this remarkable community of professionals,” say Co-Chairs of the UCLA A.UD Alumni Leadership Committee, Sarah Meeker Jensen, AIA and John Ruble, FAIA. “It is wonderfully exciting to see our alumni come together for the first time ever to celebrate the institution that gave us all so much and that continues to develop new generations of innovators and leaders.”

For the evening’s silent auction, UCLA A.UD faculty members including Hitoshi Abe, Neil Denari, Craig Hodgetts, Georgina Huljich, Julia Koerner, Thom Mayne, Greg Lynn, Neil Denari, Mark Mack, and Heather Roberge reached deep in their archives for rare and original works—some of which have never been available for sale before—and are parting with some of their most exciting recent pieces. The auction will also include a special collection of new work created exclusively for A.UD @ 50 by internationally acclaimed photographer Iwan Baan.
