Yanako Sushi Restaurant

In the spring and summer of 2012 I was brought onto a team of three (3) to design and build a new restaurant along Main Street, in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia.  The space was previously a clothing retail store with a large central atrium with four (4) large skylights and a metal mesh architectural element running from the ground level to ceiling.  Since this atrium was so powerful we choose this area to house the sushi bar which makes one feel as if they are in a traditional japanese garden.  Some elements of this space are: custom built green wall, sushi bar made from MonkeyPod, pitched terracotta roof and hanging plants.  Other spaces of the restaurant include a small Tatami Room along the front of the restaurant to create a unique dining experience with your party and the nightlife of Manayunk.  Lastly the mezzanine acts as the main dining area with a 15ft. community table and a series of banquet seating options.
