The Swift at Petworth replaced an outdated Safeway with a new store and new residential apartments in the transitioning neighborhood of Petworth.
The Swift at Petworth replaced an outdated Safeway with a new store and new residential apartments in the transitioning neighborhood of Petworth. Originally sited back from the street edge with parking in front, the new, larger Safeway store presents a retail facade to Georgia Avenue, enhancing the pedestrian experience and continuing the existing street wall of the City. 220 new mixed-income residences in 4 stories above the grocery store have been designed with efficient layouts that promote natural light into the living areas. Kitchens feature appliances, cabinetry and finishes that reflect the future of urban apartments. In addition to the amenities of the nearby Petworth Metro Station and the new Safeway, a Club Room and Fitness Room open onto a residential rooftop deck. Stormwater is partially managed by a Green Roof for this LEED Silver Certified development.
