I am an architectural designer looking for work in Chicago. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon's school of architecture in 2008, and got a job working at Burt Hill's International Studio working from Pittsburgh on projects in Dubai, and visiting Dubai for 2 weeks to do work. I mainly worked in Rhinoceros, Autocad, and the Adobe Creative Suite while at that job, developing a lasercutter workflow and conceptual design for the most part. Towards the end of my time there I began working as a Revit drafter on domestic projects. I was laid off and spent 6 months looking for work, doing competitions and freelance work with friends and colleagues. I further developed my Rhino skills and honed my rendering skills during that period. Just as I was starting some minor freelance work for a friend from Burt Hill, I was hired by a roofing and waterproofing architecture firm. While working there, I've been largely responsible for my own work on my own time. I observe and report on roof construction, document existing roof conditions, create as-built drawings, and create roof construction documents. Also during that time, I have taken on several freelance jobs, as well as a position creating construction documents for a sculpture in Grand Central Terminal, for which I took a two-month sabbatical. I'm now looking for a job at an ordinary architecture firm. I plan on earning my licensure as soon as I'm able to complete my hours and take my exams, and in order to get all the requisite hours in a more comprehensive architectural environment, I'll need to get back into an office.
