In 2007 San Diego County experienced one of the worst fires in it’s
history. The Rice Canyon fire destroyed a 1962 Ranch-style home
overlooking a beautiful citrus orchard. Rising from the ashes, the
owner desired to build a fire resistant home out of recycled polystyrene
and concrete (Performwall). He also wanted it to be the most
sustainable and energy efficient residential structure in the County.
The result is a beautiful open plan structure that exceeds minimum
energy requirements by more than 70 percent. The front door and wood
ceilings are composed of 250-400 year old recycled wood reclaimed from
Palomar Mountain.
