About

I am a licensed Architect and design professional with 7+ years experience in a wide array of project types and scopes. Most recently working as a job captain for healthcare projects in San Diego, my journey has taken me around the world professionally. While possessing strong organizational and management skills, I enjoy designing most when it is collaborative. Self-driven and thorough, I take ownership of all projects I touch and am conscientious with even the simplest of tasks. When I find myself overbooked and having to delegate, I will still make time to help in any way I am able to ensure that the best possible product is delivered.

Employment

Architects Mosher Drew, San Diego, CA, US, Job Captain

Worked in more of a project management role on mid-sized health care and education projects. My focus still ended up being on the design aspects but was heavily involved in detail, engineering, and code coordination. As projects all had a very fast timeline, I had the opportunity to work on a number of projects through to completion. I left due to personal reasons and would be willing to discuss more in person.

Predesign: Researched all applicable code and planning regulations, reviewed client's initial programming requirements and assessed for feasibility, provided test fit layouts and revised per client feedback. Helped Principal-In-Charge prepare the consultant contracts (and RFPs prior to winning the contract).

Schematic Design: Produced renderings of key interior and exterior spaces to help client visualize design and better provide feedback, assembled interiors "finish, furnishings, and equipment" (FFE) packages. At this point, organized and ran weekly/biweekly meetings with consultants and client to facilitate communication and establish a schedule of internal deadlines.

Design Development: Responsible for leading a small team of junior designers in assembling a draft construction document set of drawings using mainly Revit, although in a few cases at this firm CAD. Lead technical detail coordination for the project with senior architects. Produced a final materials board for client approval. Coordination meetings continue to be held with engineers to smooth out any potential design conflicts or unforeseen issues.

Construction Documents Phase: In this phase, myself and the PIC lead the team through drawing refinement and an internal QAQC process with a senior architect not involved with the project. Typically, I was involved in a draft version of the spec documents while the PIC produced the final spec book. City review was processed through an expediter and all comments were addressed, and as needed brought to the owner's attention.

Construction Administration: I was responsible for mainly submittals and rfi's with only a few site visit allowances. Weekly/biweekly meetings were in the contractor's charge.

Jun 2022 - Jul 2023

Specht Architects, Austin, TX, US, Designer

Worked on high-end residential "dream homes," mostly in the area of predesign and schematic design. Work was done heavily in a mix between Sketch-Up, Revit, Enscape, and Adobe Photoshop. I became very comfortable with creating photorealistic scenes with entourage and producing rapid rendering output. Produced Enscape walkthrough-videos with solar settings changing, interior and finish packages, and fixture selections.

Predesign: Researched all applicable code and planning regulations, reviewed client's initial programming requirements and assessed for feasibility, provided test fit layouts and revised per client feedback.

Schematic Design: Produced renderings of key interior and exterior spaces to help client visualize design and better provide feedback, assembled interiors "finish, furnishings, and equipment" (FFE) packages.

This was a remote position due to COVID-related constraints and therefore somewhat limited in scope and term.

Optimist, Inc, Los Angeles, CA, US, Intern

Worked with the design team on branding experiences and material for external clients. Work was done in mostly in Rhino, Keyshot, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

Position was concurrent to a full time Master's course load and therefore was somewhat limited. Unfortunately my intention was to resume full time beginning in April 2020; however, due to the Pandemic, the position was terminated. My exposure from this position to experiential branding however has continued to serve as a major interest of mine and is something I would like to explore more.

Sep 2019 - Mar 2020

NoackLittle, Austin, TX, US, Interior Design

My first time officially as part of the interior design team, I was responsible for smaller projects on a more independent basis than I had been prior. One such project involved the redesign of an office space lobby in downtown Austin. For this project, I worked closely with the engineering team to sensitively refresh the lobby space with new lighting and finishes, while enlarging the entry area by removing an existing mailroom, and adding welcoming touches such as a custom built-in bench.
Outside of the work I was accustomed to doing for the architectural production team I was introduced to creating materials boards, interior space renderings, and creating door hardware packages for large projects. I still continued to work on construction documents, technical detailing and producing as-builts.

Oct 2016 - Jun 2017

Haddon+Cowan, Austin, TX, US, Designer

A few of the main projects I worked on include the Texan Eye Optometry Clinic, a number of Baylor, Scott, and White pharmacies and clinic TI's, the Austin Beerworks Taproom and brewery expansion, and the Faregrounds at 111 Congress, a high profile face lift to a downtown Austin, TX, building with the addition of a food court and conferencing space as well as new exterior permanent kiosk restaurant space.

Design Development: Assembled draft construction document set of drawings using mainly Revit, with guidance. Attended and took notes during coordination meetings with engineers and clients to smooth out any potential design conflicts or unforeseen issues.

Construction Documents Phase: Produced complete construction document sets as well as draft spec books using SpecLink. Picked up redlines and coordinated complied package. City review was processed through an expediter and all comments were addressed.

Construction Administration: I was responsible for mainly submittals and rfi's with only a few site visit allowances. Weekly/biweekly meetings were in the contractor's charge.

Forge Architects, San Francisco, CA, US, Designer

Was mostly engaged in construction documents through construction administration at this office. Also worked with an external interior design firm, lighting designer, and the client to coordinate the interiors of a multistory, mixed-use project near Union Square which included an art gallery/exhibition space, office space, artist studio and penthouse residence. The existing building shell dated back to the early 20th century as a transient hotel space. The conversion involved extensive seismic and general structural retrofitting and rehabilitation. For example, at the penthouse, a swimming pool was added which involved major structural and plumbing acrobatics given the relatively low floor-to-floor profile and cast-in-place concrete structure.

Managing the Revit model for this project was equally ambitious and required several independent architectural models nested together. This project predated BIM 360 thus consultant coordination proved challenging as well.

Oct 2013 - Nov 2014

Jace Architecture, Oakland, CA, US, Designer

Worked in a multifaceted capacity from client relations, accounting, reception, permitting and design/production for this small office. The projects were mostly high end residential and we ensured that clients were given white-glove service. I was able to work on a number of renovations from pre-design through construction administration and even, in the case of one project, ordering furniture and decor and staging the apartment.

Education

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles, CA, US, MArch, M. Arch 1

A three year intensive professionally accredited architecture masters program. With a mandatory seven quarter long studios, a year long thesis studio, a number of required technical courses and electives, the program was extremely fast paced and we typically had some sort of major deadline, exam or pinup at least every other week. Technical requirements in the program included learning CNC milling, parametric design, 3D printing and laser cutting, and high volume high quality production. In addition to the typical course load, I also pursued the Urban Humanities Initiative, which was a year long, multidisciplinary, research program, culminating in a trip to Shanghai to work with students in a sister school there to produce a mini "showcase."

Aug 2017 - May 2020

UC Berkeley CED, Berkeley, CA, US, Bachelors, Bachelor of Arts in Architecture

A four year general studies program within the College of Environmental Design, we were introduced to hand drafting, physical modeling and wood working, and Rhino and the Adobe suite. General courses on green building, structures, architectural theory, and history were also required. Concurrently I pursued a Minor in Urban Planning and Design in Developing Countries.
