Hi! Thank you for reading this architectural short story zine! This thesis was inspired by Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84, the city of Tokyo and the architectural works of Kenzo Tange. As an indictment of Tokyo’s relationship to work, this reuse project explores the absurd and redeemable qualities of the ever-expanding megalopolis by contrasting modern quirks of work culture with older cultural practices that have persisted to balance them. Acknowledgments go out to everyone in the 2021 Vantage Points architectural design thesis at Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning including Keith Mitnick and Mireille Roddier.
