We are proud to announce that our founder and The Lighting Practice Principal, Alfred R. Borden is one of twelve Certified Lighting Designers (CLD) in the US and abroad.

CLD Certification is the first ever evidence-based lighting design certification. In the past lighting professionals have been required to take written tests to prove their knowledge and skill level. CLD Certification requires a minimum of three years of experience working as a lead lighting design professional. The certification processes challenges a lighting professional to prove their professional knowledge and proficiency through an online application which includes essays where the professional must demonstrate competence in seven domains of practice and project case studies that reflect the professional’s knowledge and skill level. The submission then goes through a double-blind judging processes. The submission is privately and separately reviewed by three judges who have no prior knowledge of the candidate or each other. This process prevents favoritism and discrimination due to professional and personal connections. In order to maintain CLD Certification a lighting professional is required to maintain and grow their knowledge through educational and professional development participation.

We are proud of Al and inspired by his leadership and motivation to continue to learn and grow within the Architectural Lighting Design industry.
