Founded in 1958, the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University (THAD) is a national Grade A architectural design institute located in Beijing, China.

Benefiting from the rich academic, research and teaching resources of Tsinghua University, THAD attaches great importance to academic research and the commercialization of technological achievements. THAD is also where faculties such as the School of Architecture and the School of Civil Engineering integrate teaching and research into practice. These factors jointly contribute to our top-ranking performance in planning and design.

Currently, THAD has more than 1200 engineering design staff, 9 architectural & construction design branches, 8 research branches, 7 Studios headed by academicians and national Design Masters, 3 Architectural Design Sections, a Structural Design Section, a Green Building Engineering Design & Research Section, an Engineering Consulting Office, a Cultural Heritage Conservation Center, a Hydroengineering Design & Research Section, a Landscape Design & Research Section, a Livable Urban and Rural Planning Design & Research Section, as well as 4 research centers, fulfilling responsibilities and commitments as architects and engineers with professionalism. 

In recent years, THAD has won over 500 national, provincial and ministerial design awards for the projects we have designed and completed, ranking high among nationwide Grade A design institutes. 

THAD is also actively engaged in international exchanges and cooperation. We have established good cooperative relationships with colleges and universities, research institutes, design firms and clients in more than ten countries and regions including the United States, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Australia, Japan and Korea.
