Lecture: Carissa Slotterback, "Advancing Community Engagement in Urban Planning Research and Education"

Carissa Slotterback is the Associate Dean of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, as well as an Associate Professor of urban and regional planning.  Her research and teaching focus on public engagement and decision making in environmental, land use, and transportation planning.   She has a particular interest in how stakeholders perceive impacts and use information in making decisions, focusing on impact assessment, collaboration, and sustainability planning approaches.  Dr. Slotterback has led a number of initiatives focused on interdisciplinary and engaged research and education.  She co-founded and directed the Resilient Communities Project, which builds community-university partnerships to advance sustainability.  She also previously served as Director of Research Engagement in the University of Minnesota’s Office of the Vice President for Research, where she created and implemented multiple initiatives to advance collaborative research within the university and with external partners.  She is the incoming Vice President/President-Elect of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and was inducted in 2018 as a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners.  She has a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Clemson University and a PhD in urban and regional planning from Florida State University.
