Block R North is a shell building provided by the Queensland Centre for Advanced Technology to BHP Billiton as a research facility. Co-developed with the BHP Billiton interior design department, the Architectus team was responsible for developing a design that was sympathetic to the industrial nature of the existing campus.
Situated on the crest of hill, the building takes its form from the metaphor of the classic 'Queenslander' domestic house.
