ANN ARBOR, Michigan; July 27, 2022 -- Synecdoche continues to be recognized for its projects and practice as innovators in the field with national, state and local awards.

With the completion of two interior renovation projects earlier this year, the studio receives accolades for their approach and integration of  interiors, architecture, fabrication, and user experience. The neighborhood non-profit Jefferson East, Inc. worked with Synecdoche to design a neighborhood hub to include staff workstations and community gathering space. The project is recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Detroit Chapter annual awards for the Small Project Category. The 3,000 SF space utilized the architect's fabrication shop to create custom moveable furniture to meet the dynamic programming needs. The project also received the only all around project Honorable Mention At the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Michigan Chapter Awards Gala.

The IIDA Michigan Awards take place every 3 years and recognize the best projects in ten project categories. Synecdoche was honored with the Retail Award for Gamma Piercing. The interior design reimagines the retail experience of fine jewelry by centralizing the counter as a place to display and connect around piercings. The success of the project has been recognized in the industry, but also in the bottom line as jewelry sales have increased for the local business with the new product selection experience.

Synecdoche’s interdisciplinary design skills and alternative practice approach which led to the success in both projects has also been recognized by The Architect’s Newspaper for their annual AN Best of Practice Awards as an Honorable Mention for the Midwest Small Firm category.

“With our Best of Practice Award, AN tips our hat to North American firms excelling at every level of the AEC industry. Honoring firms of all sizes working in all regions, the award offers a snapshot of what practice looks like today.” ~The Architects Newspaper
