ANN ARBOR, Michigan; May 6, 2022 -- The interdisciplinary studio is expanding its fabrication and design services to better address the needs and opportunities of design in the built environment.

The shop will continue to create bespoke objects and furniture for their design projects and broaden fabrication into a product line focused on the commercial and hospitality industry. The series will officially launch at WantedDesign in NYC during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), taking place May 15-17 at the Javits Center.

Synecdoche has promoted Sidney Migoski from Project Architect to Studio Director to help manage the design and formation of the expanding services and products. Her recent completion of the CKLDP Leadership Program through AIA has strengthened Sidney’s understanding of and opportunity for progress in the field of architecture and impacts more broadly on the built environment as several scales from objects to neighborhood design.

Similar to the bespoke objects turning into a specific product offering, Synecdoche previously supported some aspects of branding, graphics, and environmental design to clients. The studio plans to offer this as a primary service based on it’s deeply integrated impact to the elements of the built environment and brand experience through user mapping, brand strategy, and graphic design. To support these efforts, Lauren Secord brings a background of interiors and brand design to the studio as a Project + Brand Designer. One of the first projects to prepare the services was the rebranding of Synecdoche itself earlier this year.

The roles and service updates further reinforce and recognize the significant contributions of women in architecture and design where Principal Lisa Sauve has previously been recognized by Forbes, Crains, and AIA for her leadership in design and business. Along with these internal changes, the studio has added several new staff to grow from 5 to 10 designers with backgrounds in furniture design, creative writing, interiors, and architecture.

“We’re excited to support the development and create opportunities for designers in our studio. For us, the success of Synecdoche is measured in the growth of our people and the impact we make in our community. The evolution of the studio is directly impacted by the purpose driven pursuits, expertise and interests of our team.” - Lisa Sauve, Principal at SYNECDOCHE
