Nike New York Headquarters

Designed by Nike’s Workplace Design + Connectivity (WD+C) team in partnership with Studios Architecture.

The expansive 6-floor space features freestyle workspace for 180 employees; a 4,000-sq. ft. basketball court; 2 outdoor terraces; a swoosh garden made from succulents; and a library curated by Nike NY & Phaidon.

For decades, Nike has forged a strong bond with New York City. Across the five boroughs’ basketball courts, relationships forged with high school teams have championed “the city game.” Run clubs emanate from the Nike Running Flatiron store and from Nike Town on 57th Street. Last year, Nike partnered with the New York City Dept. of Parks and Recreation to embellish the Stanton Street Courts with painting by the artist, KAWS.

Now, as part of the company’s key city strategy within its new Consumer Direct Offense, Nike is opening a
stunning new New York HQ. Housing an integrated design studio, and covering nearly 150,000 square feet across six floors at 855 Avenue of the Americas, Nike NYHQ represents part of a global initiative to add resources in influential sport and style hubs.

The interior of Nike NYHQ has been designed to facilitate creativity and collaboration through open-plan, freestyle workspaces. Meeting areas include a VW van — a tribute to the original van from which Bill Bowerman and Jeff Johnson would distribute Nike shoes at track meets in the company’s early days. Several conference rooms feature custom ceiling tiles, designed by Miniwiz, which are also made from recycled materials. A roof terrace (complete with plants in the shape of the Nike swoosh), allows for open-air meetings and relaxation, and food is served from a food truck housed in the building.

Nike NYHQ also has a 4,000-square-foot indoor basketball court, complete with seating for 400. The space will host local leagues, high school teams and community partners, and is also available for Nike staff.

The teams at NYHQ are positioned to bring locally-inspired product to New York City faster. This means forging deeper relationships and accelerating real-time insights, feeding directly into NYHQ’s Nike Express Lane.

Direct connections to New York City’s residents and visitors also continue to be built through Nike’s robust retail footprint. This ranges from the digitally-connected Nike SoHo store (529 Broadway) to the neighborhood-driven Nike Community Store at the intersection of Nostrand and Flatbush Avenues in Brooklyn. These are strengthened by the brand’s cutting-edge NikeLab 21M door (21 Mercer Street) and the Nike Running Upper East Side door (1131 3rd Avenue), in addition to partnerships like Nike Basketball and Foot Locker’s House of Hoops, Jordan Brand and Footaction’s Flight 23 and Nike Sportswear’s Nike x KITH Shop.

Nike may originate from Oregon, but it is - as the campaign it created earlier this year says - definitely #NewYorkMade.
