Can urban spaces help resolve concern over health, biodiversity and public education? The B3 proposal looks to re-appropriate underside infrastructural spaces - transforming them from vacant to civic venues where previously unmatched urban activities can create new infrastructural hybridizations. Urban ecological habitation and outdoor rock climbing will be synthesized with rappelling, belaying, bouldering and traversing, while situated amongst green walls and ecological nesting sites. Recognizing some of the concerns of the City, including the incidence of obesity and diabetes, nature-deficit syndrome and the loss of wildlife habitat that has accompanied urban sprawl, the B3 design proposal manipulates a series of vertical interventions and modular wall panels to programmatically merge an outdoor classroom with a vertical gymnasium. To create a successful habitat for these new ecological adjacencies, diurnal and seasonal human and non-human dynamics have been monopolized to anticipate a continually activated, living, vertical landscape.
