Wedding pavilion

There are 172 wine makers in Limburg, Netherlands. We, a team of young architects, helped one of the vineyards owner to build a spacial sequence for wedding ceremony in the hilly landscape.

Wooden chapel contained a diamond shape floor plan with wood bricks support the beams at the opening. With playful openings, it forms a sequence of space that lead to the chapel area. It is a multifunction wall, which combined seating/lighting and walking paths.

This project is an experiment for an interesting topic in the architecture discourse. In modern industrial society, solid wood construction where heterogeneity of timber is considered a disadvantage in construction. Wood industry utilises expensive processes in order to overcome rather than exploit natural wood properties. In this project we suggest a different approach. We developed a proposed wood tectonics based on harnessing material behaviour induced by the slope in the context.

1. Sort and categorisation existing materials is the first step.

2. Explore every category according to texture/ shape/ color etc. concerning stability, structure, formal expressions and function.

3. Make a design using categorised materials and take advantage of the differences in shape.

4. Work with context and topography
