Mattapan Mobile Farm Stand

In collaboration with local health advocacy group Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition (MFFC) and Brookwood Community Farm, BR+A+CE designed a pedal-powered mobile farm stand for one of Boston’s most diverse neighborhoods. The idea was simple; if people can’t get to fresh food, we wanted to bring fresh food to them. The mobile farm stand sells its produce at a local public transit hub, a senior residence, and a popular playground at different times during the day. The farm stand is uniquely designed to draw attention to healthy foods but also to serve as a promoter of biking as a form of physical activity.  The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition and its youth arm, the Vigorous Youth, operates the mobile farm stand.  BR+A+CE supplied technical and design expertise as well as organized the fundraising effort and fabrication of the human powered wheeled structure.

BR+A+CE: Building Research + Architecture + Community Exchange is a 501(c)3 non-profit community organization co-founded by the Principals of Studio Luz Architects.
