The owners had lived in the house in South London for several years, however with a new addition to the family on the way. Rather than moving, they wanted to improve.
Their goals were to maximise the usable space in the house, increase the size of the office to become a nursery and potential of creating an additional bedroom for guests.
One of the constraints of the existing property was having a central staircase, which minimised the sizes of the bedrooms and created dead space.
One proposal for this extension was to move the stairs externally. By doing so, reclaims usable space from circulation.
The side stairwell and rear loft extension, created two large bedrooms with
storage on the first floor and a family bathroom. And the loft created a
sizable master bedroom with en-suite and walk-in-wardrobe.
We wanted to make the new additional to the house contrast the existing vernacular with brass cladding.
