Taking cues from the traditional saltbox, this home is conceived as the ultimate escape from the chaos of urban life. It’s four distinct programmatic volumes (1- master wing, 2 - main house, 3 - garage, and 4 - pool house) are positioned on site and arranged in a way to create a rear yard oasis with maximum privacy perfect for relaxation and entertaining. The two-story front is contextually scaled to align with neighboring homes while the long sloped roof extends down at the rear to an intimate human level. Bold openings into the rear roof lines provide wide balconies from all bedrooms on the upper level and covered patios extending the main living areas on the lower level. The roof angles are also designed to bring maximum sunlight to the pool area. Nestled within the four volumes, the rear cascading courtyard incorporates a sunken living area with fire pit, outdoor grill and kitchen, garden, pool deck and a variety of sitting areas all surrounding the pool. The house volumes are unified with weathered wood planks wrapping all exterior surfaces and large expanses of glass connecting the interior with the yard, pool and tennis court.
