Occupying an office building in Sofia with a magnificent view towards Vitosha Mountain, the new Bulgarian office for the pharmaceutical company STADA benefits from generous natural light and airy open space. A calm atmosphere is created by the carefully selected materials and finishes.
studio sooda was appointed to create a workplace where two completely new teams had to collaborate. The architects layouted the space in an easy and functionally clear manner. The existing corridor was extended to mark the full length of the office and became the spine connecting the separate zones. Visually, it was enhanced by blue carpet and a dropped ceiling with a 40 meters long light strip. At the reception area, right out of the lift, the visitors are welcomed by panels in white oak which gradually turn into white and blue at the rest of the office.
Thin aluminum shelves separate the working zones from the corridor whilst maintaining the spacious feel of the office and do not disturb the visual connections between them. Employees’ comfort became a core value for the team, providing ergonomic chairs, substantial size desks, and barriers for acoustic performance and privacy. The ceiling was stripped back to its original state allowing extra floor to ceiling height at the working area. The architects kept the ceiling’s rough concrete texture in contrast to all the smooth surfaces and provided an opportunity for reflected light by up-lit light strips.
The client’s brief included three meeting rooms and a special video conference call room. The long corridor walls were decorated with plants, lights, and prints with the company’s values to create a vibrant and relaxed backdrop for the meeting rooms.
