Riptide (Seaside Way Pedestrian Bridge)

The City of Long Beach has a system of pedestrian bridges that link important cultural and civic institutions along its major thoroughfare, Ocean Avenue and Shoreline Drive. This project will fill a missing element in that network and connect the Performing Arts Center Plaza with the Convention Center Promenade.

Drawing inspiration from Long Beach’s history as a dynamic seaside town with its active port and local attractions, Riptide is formally conceived as an abstraction of a breaking wave with a deck that is composed of multifarious strands or eddy’s of elements, paving, seating, landscape etc. that typify a boardwalk environment.
