Los Angeles, CA
Space Saloon returned to the high desert of Southern California for the second annual iteration of its experimental design-build festival. FIELDWORKS was a week long community-in-residence program where teams of students and designers lived and worked together to develop site-specific projects which questioned notions of context and place.
Set in the San Bernardino mountains, between Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles, this outdoor campus provided an active and engaging atmosphere for collaborative learning.
The program was open to all students and young professionals in the art, design, and architecture disciplines. Participants engaged directly with a diverse group of interdisciplinary experts, gained experience in a variety of hands-on design and construction techniques, experienced an empowering social environment with nature hikes, lectures, musical performances, and public events.
