The HUB( t ) supports the underserved urban community around Long Beach Ave. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. as an agricultural processing and distribution center expanding knowledge of sustainable farming techniques, access to the fresh and healthy food supply, and education for preparing healthy food. Utilizing the Quonset hut structural system allows workers and community members to have a highly functional yet dynamic space. The design plays to the strengths of an easy-to-assemble steel arches and beams system. This provides clear spans in the design with customizable end walls and entrances. Curtain walls facing the north allow indirect light to come into the interior spaces, while southern-facing curtain walls filter light through louvers.
