The Panke Modular Community is a residential project located on the Panke River in Berlin, Germany. The river is also known as the ‘Hidden Stream’ because it’s hiding within the big city and over the years it has been abandoned. The primary aim was to revitalize this dormant urban area. After surveying the site several times we realized that one of the best ways to approach this was to incorporate a small residential building along with a community center which would be located adjacent to the river. My main focus was on the design of single-family apartments that could serve the local artist in the area. I made sure the apartments were energy efficient by running a series of simulations through the Diva and Sefaira software, giving me results on solar radiation, daylight, and shadows study. This helped with the placement of the apartments, window design and the location of interior spaces.
