For my senior thesis, I researched the history of water in Colorado with a specific focus on the unequal allocation between agricultural and municipal use. To complement my research, I harvested and processed local clay, sawdust, and biochar to fabricate and test small-scale clay water filters. I also designed and built a porcelain vessel to collect the filtered water. The etching in the vessel is seemingly ornamental, but upon closer inspection, imagery of the Colorado watershed map comes to view. This project was a preliminary step in engaging with the built environment in a meaningful way. It carved a path for my interests in the relation between humans and the natural world.
