Agora at The Collective

Agora is one three properties of W.C. Smith’s Collective development and a prime example of a transit-oriented development that leverages a network of multi-modal transportation, pedestrian access to the site, and a highly connected community in the southwest quadrant of the city. Located in an emerging neighborhood adjacent to an elevated highway posed a unique design challenge. To mitigate this, the design positioned a ground floor market and two levels of above grade parking below the residential tower to elevate it above the highway which creates vast city views. The grocery store and two levels of above grade parking help elevate the residential tower above the highway, thus creating more desirable views for residents of the building.

The interiors concept for Agora introduces a contemporary residential feel that brings within its walls the new, vibrant street life of Southeast, DC—a formerly heavily commercial area. The mixed-use project accommodates 336 residential units and 35,000 Sf of grocery retail. The impressive amenities suite consists of an exciting and interconnected series of vertical spaces infused with colors and rich textures along multiple floors including a fitness center, club room, outdoor pool
deck, rooftop deck, and a luscious inner courtyard.

Our “porous” interior concept allows for a comfortable and connected urban flow to continue from the neighborhood experience to the lobby and common, shared environments, and ultimately, to the individual units. This all happens while maintaining a sense of relatedness to the local flavor and ambiance. The design concept further blends contemporary architecture with chic, minimalistic interior finishes that elevate the senses. By strategically employing materials technology, and the use of light, we’ve designed and styled Agora in a contrapposto balance between a crisp, minimalist palate in the private residences and a bold, lush playfulness in the amenity spaces that show a decidedly urban character.
