This Atlanta-based law firm had recently expanded its presence in Washington and commissioned SKB to design a new 14,000 square foot office that would reinforce the firm’s commitment to the practice areas that relate directly to the United States government.
The client wanted a sophisticated space that had some warmth but a bit of an edge, reflecting the client’s style as professionals. The best location for a large, divisible conference room was right at the main reception area, but client was concerned with losing natural light and if glass was used then the occupants of the conference room may be distracted by the reception area. SKB’s solution was to separate the conference room and reception with a textured glass wall, lit by LED grazing lights to accentuate the texture of the glass, and anchor the reception and conference room space with a highly figured wood paneling. The panels have deep insets of backpainted glass and the recesses function as door handles as the wood panels open to reveal AV equipment and closets.
