New Victory Theater

Architect and Designer for the New Victory Theater on 42nd Street in Times Square while at HHPA. This was the first theater to be renovated, and in this case it also included the addition of a building on 43rd Street to act as loading dock area, support space and offices for the theater.

The New Victory was to be a symbol of New York City's commitment to revitalizing Times Square and bringing the area back to the families of the city, country and world.  As such, I proposed removing the marque and returning the original stoop to the front of the building, not only to provide needed lobby space, but to send a strong signal to the city and developers that the city was fully committed to revitalizing the area.  Besides the restoration aspects, lead by Jay Cardinal Conservation, I was tasked with all programmatic components and the creation of a functional theater, now featuring children's shows so appropriate in this modest sized setting.

Named the Victory Theater during WWII.
