A cascoron is an egg used in celebrations within Mexican and Spanish culture. The exterior of the egg is often dyed a singular bright color, with the interior emptied and filled with confetti. Following this idea in our project, we utilized exposed colored surfaces on the columns, walls, floors, windows, and various materials on the interior of our project. Each architectural element receives a different color, extending throughout the floors of the building.
The various apartments within the upper levels of the building are built as separate units and contain unique colors for each resident inside. Our project narrative revolves around the idea of integrating architectural elements such as columns, walls, floors, windows, and materials into not only the building and immediate site, but also within the social and cultural representations that are displayed within Pilsen, Chicago.
